Indoor Air Quality
An IAQ investigation attempts to isolate and mitigate one or more problems of the office building environment. The number of related complaints has increased in recent years with increased building tightness, the growing use of synthetic materials, and energy conservation measures that reduce the amount of outside air supply. Modern equipment (e.g., photocopiers, laser printers, computers), cleaning products, and outdoor air pollution can also increase the level of indoor air contamination. The reactions to these contaminants have led to the phenomenon of sick building syndrome (SBS).
Indoor
Air Quality

Factors Affecting IAQ
- Temperature and humidity extremes
- Carbon Dioxide
- Carbon Monoxide
- Formaldehyde (foam insulation, fabrics, glues, carpets, furnishings).
- Particulates (smoke, duct insulation, carpets, HVAC filters).
- Volatile organic compounds (copy machines, computers, furnishings, paints, caulking, hairsprays, solvents).
- Inadequate ventilation
- Microbial matter (mould spores).
IAQ Services
Alliance Air Monitoring Ltd. provides IAQ monitoring using the TSI Quest EVM-7 monitor. The investigation will include air samples of areas of concern and compare these results to the criteria established by Health Canada. Air sampling will establish baseline conditions, compare indoor with outdoor air quality, provide a hypothesis about the source of the problem, and reveal the existence of compounds associated with particular types of building problems.
A final report will provide levels of temperature, humidity, VOCs, CO, CO2, Particulates, and Mould in complaint areas, and then compare these results to the criteria set by Health Canada.
Additional Services
Asbestos Services
All asbestos services provided by Alliance Air Monitoring Ltd. follow procedural guidelines and best practices set forth by the Alberta Asbestos Abatement Manual. Our lab technicians are fully certified in fibre counting.
Mould Services
Lead Services
Following the NIOSH 7082 method for lead air monitoring, Alliance Air Monitoring Ltd. collects “close-face” samples using a 37mm, 0.8µm pore size, cellulose ester membrane to detect the presence of lead.
DOP/POA Testing
Testing the integrity of HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Arresting Filter) that is at least 99.7% efficient in collecting a 0.3 micrometer aerosol. Alliance Air Monitoring uses PAO (Poly Alpha Olefin) in all our DOP Testing.
Radon
Health Canada states that Radon is a radioactive gas that comes from the breakdown of uranium in soil and rock. Alliance Air Monitoring Ltd. uses long-term (3-month) Alpha Track Dosimeters for testing as advised by Health Canada.
